Mary Ann (Mia) Casale is an eclectic singer-songwriter who is blessed with a voice that is rich, pure, and refreshingly melodic.  She is a multi-instrumentalist, primarily a guitarist whose playing is defined by deft fingerpicking, a style which is reminiscent of one of her early and most revered influences—the Reverend Gary Davis. Mary Ann’s songs are firmly grounded in the Folk genre, but also hint at other roots styles that have found their way into her music.

Born on Long Island, Mary Ann started making music at a young age after being introduced to the guitar by her uncle, Scuff Rosario, a celebrated NYC musician.  From him, she acquired the strong jazz and blues influences that flavor her guitar playing today. As a teen, Mary Ann gravitated to folk music and began playing the vibrant college coffeehouse scene that had sprung up across Long Island.  She then ventured “Upstate” for solo performances.  Later she performed as a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist with several small bands.  While fans admired her abilities on guitar, mandolin and dulcimer, it was her voice - deeply soulful and uniquely resonant that soon became her trademark.

Mary Ann’s next chapter didn’t begin until after an almost thirty-year hiatus.  She was inspired to write and perform again, releasing two albums of new original music.  Running Out of Time (2014), truly a folk album, includes thirteen tracks aimed at showcasing her writing.  Mary Ann’s trademark vocal is front and center with minimal accompaniment – acoustic guitar, harmonica and cello. On Restless Heart (2016) Mary Ann led a full band in recording eleven fresh original songs.  The album maintains the integrity of a folk album, even with its more extensive instrumentation, intricate arrangements and detailed production. Over the next ten years Mary Ann has lent her talents to co-writing, arranging, and recording music with long-time music partner, Tas Cru.  She also began performing in his band at festivals and venues all across the US, eastern Canada and on three tours to several countries in northern Europe. In all, during this time she helped deliver six albums and toured extensively to support these releases. Mary Ann finally took to the studio again in 2025. The aptly titled, Where I Belong, marks her return to her folk roots but now nuanced by music sensibilities acquired from her ten years of touring and focusing her creativity as a collaborator. She is currently performing with Tas Cru in their duo, Eclipse  - The Tas Cru & Mary Ann Casale Acoustic Reverie.  Mary Ann also continues to perform with the Tas Cru band on vocals and guitar, and at present, again finds herself in her role as an  essential collaborator on Tas’ latest album.
