Mary Ann (Mia) Casale is an eclectic singer-songwriter who is blessed with a voice that is rich, pure, and refreshingly melodic.  While she is admired for her abilities as an instrumentalist, it is her voice - deeply soulful and uniquely resonant - that is truly her trademark. Mary Ann is a multi-instrumentalist, primarily a guitarist who also plays the mandolin and dulcimer. Her songwriting is firmly grounded in the folk genre but also hints at other roots styles that have found their way into her music. 


Born on Long Island, Mary Ann started making music at a young age after being introduced to the guitar by her uncle, Scuff Rosario, a celebrated NYC musician.  From him, she acquired the strong jazz and blues influences that flavor her guitar playing today. She also developed a deft fingerpicking style learned from playing songs by pre-war acoustic blues artists such as the Reverend Gary Davis.  As a teen, Mary Ann gravitated to folk music and began playing the vibrant college coffeehouse scene that had sprung up across Long Island.  She then ventured “Upstate” for solo performances and later performed as a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist with several small bands.



 

Mary Ann’s next chapter didn’t begin until after an almost thirty-year hiatus.  She was inspired to write and perform again, releasing an album of new original music in 2014. Running Out of Time, truly a folk album, includes thirteen songs showcasing her trademark vocal and songwriting.  Over the next dozen years Mary Ann focused on lending her talents to co-writing, arranging, and recording music with long-time music partner, Tas Cru.  She also began performing in his band at festivals and venues across the US, eastern Canada and on tours in northern Europe. In all, during this time she helped deliver seven Tas Cru albums and toured extensively to support these releases. 

Mary Ann’s most recent album Where I Belong was released by Guitar One Records in fall 2025 and brought her much wider recognition. This album, rooted in folk, delivers songs served up in a fresh style shaped by new creative sensibilities acquired during her years touring and performing.  But during this time-period Mary Ann also had written an album’s worth of new songs. She led a full band in recording Restless Heart in 2016.  At that time due to lack of adequate resources for proper promotion, it did not get the attention it certainly deserved. Recognizing the artistry of what they call “a masterpiece that has flown under the radar for the last ten years,” Guitar One Records now in 2026 has reissued Restless Heart supported by its professional team of dedicated promotions specialists.

Mary Ann continues to collaborate with Tas Cru in crafting a new single for release in 2027 and preparing for a fourth European Tour.She is currently performing with him both in the acoustic duo, Eclipse and with the band whose repertoire includes several of Mary Ann’s great songs.
